Foundation organizes peaceful protest for headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses

Stichting Reclaimed Voices organizes a peaceful protest in the vicinity of the headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She wants to reflect on the consequences of child sexual abuse within (closed) religious communities.

The reason for this protest is the preparation of the administration of the Jehovah’s Witnesses who dismisses complaints of abuse within their community as incidents. The board also announced that it did not want to cooperate in an independent investigation that was initiated by the Ministry of Justice and Security.

Furthermore, victims of sexual abuse within the Jehovah’s Witnesses will hand over a manifesto to the Mayor of Emmen on 6 October. This manifesto calls for the safety of children to be central to all religious communities. This message is relevant because, in addition to the abuse within the Jehovah’s Witnesses, much attention has also recently been paid to abuse within the Roman Catholic Church.

The manifesto must make people aware, what they can do themselves if they feel that a child is being abused or abused in a closed community. In addition to the mayor of Emmen, this manifesto is embraced by a number of members of the House of Representatives.
