*please note that this may not be an accurate reporting of what Minister Sander Dekker actually wrote. However, this report is included on my site purely because it was published in the mainstream media and was in regards to Jehovah’s Witnesses. Criminal investigation into sexual abuse within Jehovah’s Witnesses
The Public Prosecution Service started a criminal investigation into sexual abuse at the faith community of Jehovah’s Witnesses. This is what Minister Sander Dekker (Legal Protection) writes in a letter to the House of Representatives.
The criminal investigation follows five reports of sexual abuse from various regions in the country. “At the Public Prosecution Service, the declarations were carefully dealt with by specialist vice officers in the regions,” the minister writes. Earlier, he called on victims to make a declaration, so that the OM could initiate an investigation.
Hadassah was abused for 10 years
Recently, several victims of sexual abuse have come to the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Some accused the religious community of having covered the abuse. One of them is Hadassah Wiersma. She did her story at EenVandaag in June . She said that the abuse started at the age of seven and continued for 10 years.
Her uncle and aunt put Hadassah under pressure not to tell anyone. It gave the girl a double life. “I always laughed from the outside, but inside I broke, that’s your life, you have to be constantly on your guard what you can and can not say.”
